Trunk Network
Míla's Trunk Network builds mostly on Optical Fibre cables but also on copper lines and microwave connections. The network includes all urban cores in Iceland.
Míla's services throughout Iceland are plentiful and reliable. Míla's main fiber network is 1800 km however the total optical fibre in the trunk network is in excess of 4000 km. Míla also operates an extensive microwave trunk network. The fibre optic cable system is the main support layer for the whole telecommunications systems In Iceland. The structure of the fibre optic cable system is based on ring structures and thus designed to maximize the operating time for any given connection.
Besides optical fibre Míla's core network offers a variety of wholesale leased lines, both fixed and wireless solutions. All leased lines are private, bidirectional and fully symmetric. Available bandwidth for our leased liens ranges from 64Kb up to 100Gb. Interfaces available are E-interfaces, STM-interfaces, Ethernet interfaces and Fibre-Channel (FC). Other types of interfaces are available up on request. Our core network transport technology is based on the OSI model layer 0 to 2,5 , so no IP-routing is involved in creating and transporting leased lines in Míla's core network.
To be able to use Míla's wholesale services and leased lines our customers have to be registered with the Icelandic telecommunication regulatory authorities https://www.pfs.is/fjarskipti/skrad-fjarskiptafyrirtaeki/
